Sports medicine

Sport and physical activity include important benefits such as higher health-related quality of life and increased self-esteem. Furthermore, it induces favourable effects on cardiovascular risk profiles and bone health. In contrast to the beneficial health effects, it also includes an inherent risk of injury. Accordingly, such injuries can have long term consequences, emphasized by an increased risk of joint damage and the development of longstanding conditions that may eventually lead to reduced physical activity, potentially decreasing general health and quality of life for these individuals. Sports medicine research in PMR-C focuses on injury-prevention,-management and – rehabilitation, and includes exercise as the primary modality of interest. PMR-C is part of IOC Sports Medicine Copenhagen; one of only 9 centres worldwide recognised as IOC Research Centres for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health.
